5 Bald Puppies Found By The Roadside Greeted Their Rescuers With Lots Of Kisses
One day a woman from Vineland, New Jersey, was driving when she suddenly saw a very sad scene: five bald, very sick-looking puppies, all huddled together on the side of the road.
It was immediately obvious that these poor babies had been abandoned and she knew she couldn't just leave them there.
She immediately contacted the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter, which sent an animal control officer to pick up the puppies.
When the employee saw how bad off they were, he immediately took them to the vet instead of taking them to the shelter.
A terrible diagnosis
The veterinarian determined that they suffered from mange, eye infections, swollen legs and open sores all over their bodies.
Moreover, they were extremely emaciated, indicating that they had previously been neglected and simply dumped on the streets.
After diagnosis, they were taken to the shelter where, given their health condition, a big job awaited the shelter's staff and volunteers.
Despite their condition, these puppies continued to smile and gave their rescuers many kisses as a sign of gratitude for taking such good care of them.
"They were all very sweet at intake, even in the state they were in. They wagged their tails and licked our faces," said Kathleen Leary, chief operating officer South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter."
The people who cared for them raved about this behavior and saw that they really had a strong spirit.
Better day by day
They determined that these 5 puppies were about 5 and a half months old.
They weren't sure of the breed because of their poor condition, but they suspected the puppies were a mix of Mastiff and Cane Corso.
Despite everything, the kind people of this shelter made sure that they lacked nothing and were constantly cared for.
"They receive antibiotics, eye medication and medicated baths and are rechecked weekly by our veterinarian," Leary said.
When these beautiful little dogs had recovered and their hair finally resembled real dogs, they decided to give them names.
They were named after Super Mario characters: Mario, Luigi, Bowser and Princess Peach.
Finally, these little treasures were ready both medically and mentally, and the shelter soon announced on their Facebook page that they had found a foster home and were doing well.
"Their little personalities are slowly emerging, they all seem to get along well with other dogs and love people," Leary said.
A new beginning
When the shelter's staff announced on their official Facebook page that all the dogs were ready for adoption, it seemed that this would happen.
It took a while for potential adopters to decide to adopt these brave dogs.
Eventually, they all got new homes.
The only one who had problems was Luigi, who did not get along with the other dogs in his new family.
Therefore, unfortunately, he had to be returned to the shelter.
However, they did not have to wait long until another woman told them that her son instantly fell in love with this dog.
The photo of the two is one that will melt your heart because Luigi finally got the home and family he deserves.
