Dogs need very little. All they want is a soft bed, good food and someone to love them until they cross the Rainbow Bridge.

Stella, a sweet 10-year-old beagle mix had a rough start in life.

She was left with five other dogs at the home of a friend of her owner.

It was a heartbreaking situation, but fortunately that changed for Stella.

Frosted Face Foundation (FFF), a group that rescues older dogs, received a call about Stella.

A sweet volunteer, Janet Citriniti, drove several hours to rescue Stella and bring her to their safe shelter.

However, Stella was extremely shy and potential adopters did not take notice of her at the Pasadena Humane Society.

To help her show her true character, another volunteer, Sue King, took Stella on a two-week adventure called "Frosted Fling."

"Unfortunately, it was discovered that Stella had heart murmurs and chronic degenerative valve disease when she arrived at Frosted Faces Foundation and was considered terminal," FFF wrote.

Love at first sight

Despite her health problems, Stella's big, sad eyes touched the heart of a family - Janice and Tyson Krehbiel.

They decided to adopt her and promised to love her in her last days of life.

The Krehbiel family said, "There is nothing finer than giving an old dog a comfortable life."

New home for Stella

Stella knew she finally had a home. She began to show her true self and became more open.

The Krehbiel family shared updates with FFF, describing Stella as "a cool old lady."

She enjoyed patrolling the garden with her canine siblings, trying out different dog beds and rocking out to classic '70s rock.

A beautiful farewell

Just a few months after she found her new home, Stella died.

The Krehbiel family, defeated but grateful, shared:

"We are so sad that we only had her for a short time. Rest in peace dear Stellla, you were a ( pearl)."

Janice, Stella's mother, said, "Her previous owner may have forgotten her, but Frosted Faces Foundation did not and we never will."

Stella's story reminds us that even in the twilight of their lives, these old souls deserve love, care and a warm place to go home to.
