Abandoned Dog And Cat Are Inseparable Even After Their Rescue
You've probably heard that dogs and cats don't like each other, but this turns out to be largely a fable.
Scientists believe that dogs and cats are not sworn enemies, even if they sometimes dislike each other.
Someone who knew this all too well was Lydia Sattler, the director of animal protection JCAS.
An unusual duo
Sassy was a 6-year-old dog and Shadow was a 1-year-old cat. These two friends had been abandoned by their families and left to fend for themselves.
Instead of going their separate ways, they decided to stay together and look out for each other.
Lydia Sattler, JCAS animal welfare director, was amazed at their close relationship.
She said, "This cat and dog were literally glued together. You really rarely see that."
A nice person encountered Sassy and Shadow and brought them some food. What surprised everyone was that Sassy let Shadow eat first. She waited patiently for her friend to finish eating.
A new home together
When it came time to take them to the shelter, JCAS staff did not want to separate them.
Sattler said: When they arrived here, we didn't want to separate them, but we have a special room for dogs and a cat room. We did have a large room available for several cats, so we decided to put them in that room so they could stay together.
Even in the shelter, they did everything together - sleeping, eating and playing.
The shelter staff knew they had to find a family willing to adopt them both.
After a month of searching, they found a loving home where Sassy and Shadow could stay together.
They no longer had to worry about going hungry.
Happily ever after
Lydia Sattler continues to be informed by Sassy and Shadow' s new family.
She is happy to know that the two friends are doing well and enjoying their time together.
This story shows that dogs and cats can become true friends, and it debunks the idea that they don't get along.
Sometimes the most surprising friendships can bring the most joy.
