Blind Dog Nobody Wanted Gets A Home And His Best Buddy Becomes His Guide
When Jess Martin was volunteering at the local animal shelter one day, she met a special dog named Amos.
Amos was a Staffordshire who was born blind and spent his days at the shelter, longing for a forever home.
When she heard he was having trouble finding his family, she immediately opened her home to the timid dog.
What began as a temporary foster home for Amos turned into a home that would change his life forever.
A new family member
Jess Martin was nervous about how Toby, her 9-year-old terrier, would react to his new foster brother, Amos.
Toby was Jess' best friend and they had had many wonderful adventures together.
They shared a special bond, so Jess was uncertain to welcome a new family member into their little family.
But after a few days, Toby and Amos became close friends, and Jess felt relieved.
Overcoming challenges
Amos had never lived in a house before Jess took him in.
He had spent his entire life in a shelter.
Amos found it difficult to adjust to his new environment.
He bumped into walls and was startled by the sound of the TV.
Even the feel of the carpet under his paws made him uncomfortable.
Simple things, like finding his water bowl, were very difficult for him because he could not see.
At first, Toby wasn't sure about Amos. But Jess then saw something amazing happen.
When Amos needed help finding his water bowl, Toby gently nudged him in the right direction.
What started with a few nudges soon turned into Toby becoming Amos' guide.
Jess and her family were overjoyed to see Amos become more confident with Toby's help.
They knew they had gained another precious member of their family.
As Amos grew older, he went to a doctor who looked at his eyes.
The doctor said Amos' eyes hurt him every day.
So the doctor decided it would be best to take Amos' eyes out.
After surgery, Toby became Amos' sidekick.
When Amos and Toby went for walks, Amos felt nervous.
Loud noises frightened him and he often had to stop to rest.
But Toby was always there for him.
Toby lay down next to Amos and waited patiently until Amos felt ready to walk on.

Now Toby and Amos love hiking in the mountains!
It is their favorite thing to do together.
Toby leads the way, gently bumping into Amos and giving him a push when he wanders off the path.
They explore the hills together, enjoying each other's company at every step.
"They have developed good communication between themselves and they know each other's boundaries."
Amos can walk very well now, but he has yet to learn how to befriend other dogs.
Toby helps him when they meet new dogs.
Sometimes other dogs get confused by Amos because he cannot communicate like them.
Jess and Toby help Amos become more social every day. They are a great team!
An eternal friendship
Toby is the perfect guide and protector for Amos!
They are like best buddies who will always be there for each other.
They have found in each other a friend for life.
