Dog From Shelter Hugs Everyone He Meets, Hoping They'll Adopt Him

In the crowded streets of Houston, Texas, lived a stray dog named Tanner and many others like him, longing for a glimmer of hope.

Their daily mission was simple: find enough food to satisfy their hunger.

Each new day brought a glimmer of hope, that someone would save them from their hard life on the streets.

Among these hopeful souls was Tanner, whose story from despair to hope began in the summer of 2023.

Tanner was rescued and brought to a local shelter. Shortly after he arrived, shelter staff discovered to their delight that he was a very special dog.

Life on the streets

Every day, Tanner and many other stray dogs hoped someone would save them from their harsh lives on the streets. They longed for a loving family.

Tanner was one of those hopeful pups. He waited and waited, wondering if his chance for a better life would ever come.

The rescue of Tanner

On a beautiful summer day in 2023, Tanner's luck changed. He was found and rescued by kind people who took him to a shelter in town.

The shelter staff quickly realized that Tanner was no ordinary dog; he was very special.

A loving dog in need

Despite his rescue, Tanner still longed for a golden basket. Three long weeks passed but no one came to adopt him.

The shelter was overcrowded and it was a difficult time. Unfortunately, Tanner's name ended up on the euthanasia list.

A guardian angel

Don't worry, however, because Tanner's story took a heartwarming turn. Madeline Garvis Smith, a local dog lover, came to visit him.

She was touched by Tanner's loving nature and was especially moved when he wrapped his paws around her and gave her the sweetest hugs.

A call for help

Garvis Smith used her Instagram account to help dogs in need. On Aug. 26, 2023, she shared Tanner's story with the world.

She wanted everyone to know about this sweet baby, Tanner, who just needed someone to give him a chance.

A loving foster mother helps

Tanner's story touched many hearts and also reached Kari, a local foster mother. She offered to give Tanner a temporary home.

Tanner was overjoyed to leave the shelter, but he did not forget the kind people who had cared for him. He hugged them as if to thank them.

A new beginning

With Kari by his side, Tanner's tail began to wag happily. He was finally on his way to a safe and loving home.

When Tanner got into the car with Kari, she kissed him, happy that she could contribute to saving this sweet dog's life.

The road to a golden basket

After arriving at his foster home, Tanner was a little shy at first. But as he felt the love and care of his foster family, he became more and more comfortable.

Soon Tanner will go to the Animal Rescue Network in New Hampshire. There he will wait patiently for his new home.
