Our dogs thrive on our love. It is heartbreaking that some owners mistreat them.

How can anyone mistreat these sweet and defenseless animals who shower us with so much love?

Ladybird was one of the innocent puppies who learned how heartless people can be.

The adorable puppy had been cruelly abandoned and tied to a tree.

Ladybird sat patiently by the tree with her sad puppy eyes focused on the nearby road.

Her brave heart was filled with hope that someone would notice her and show her some compassion and love.

A heartbreaking discovery

One day a kind driver driving down a road in Kentucky saw Ladybird tied to a tree.

Ladybird looked cold and scared, but she waited bravely, hoping someone would notice her and show her kindness.

The driver was saddened to see Ladybird alone and quickly contacted the Lewis County Animal Shelter for help.

They wanted Ladybird to be safe and loved again.

Rescue and shelter

Rescuers from the shelter came to rescue Ladybird.

They picked her up and brought her to the shelter, where they were able to keep her safe and warm.

"She sat there so stoically by the tree waiting for someone to notice her. I'm so grateful the shelter found her and took her in. She was found not far from the shelter," says Kim Desroches of Friends of Lewis County Animals.

At the shelter, Ladybird felt scared and unsure of everything around her.

The shelter staff knew the large public shelter was not the right place for Ladybird.

She was a small and fragile puppy who needed love and affection.

A new beginning in a foster home

Kim Desroches saw Ladybird's photo on the shelter's Facebook page and felt sad.

Ladybird was only six to seven weeks old, and it was hard to believe that anyone could abandon such a sweet puppy.

But Kim was determined to help Ladybird.

She found a foster home for her where Ladybird could feel loved and safe.

Ladybird's foster mother hugged her and showered her with affection, making Ladybird feel happy and playful again.

Hope for the future

After some time in her foster home, Ladybird's rescuers found a place for her at the Licking County Humane Society, where she could find her forever family.

On Jan. 27, 2024, the shelter announced on Facebook that Ladybird was awaiting adoption.

Everyone hoped Ladybird would find a family who would love her endlessly and never leave her alone again.

We keep our fingers crossed and hope Ladybird has found her long and happy life.
