Fearful Dog Did Not Even Dare To Look At His New Owners Until He Realizes He Is Finally Safe

People sometimes forget that dogs have feelings.
Dogs can be happy when they play with their owners, but they can also feel sad when someone hurts them.
Some people don't realize that dogs also need kindness and respect, just like humans.
When dogs are mistreated, they can lose their trust in anyone.
This makes it difficult for people who want to help them because they have to earn the dog's trust back.
A new beginning
One day, a kind woman named Kelly came into Walt's life.
Kelly wanted to help dogs who needed love and care, so she decided to adopt a dog.
When she met Walt, she knew he was the one she wanted to help.
Walt was very shy and reserved.
He no longer knew how to trust people.
He avoided eye contact and preferred to sleep outside rather than in Kelly's home.
"When we picked him up, he was so scared. He wouldn't even make eye contact with us in the car. Someone had failed him once," Kelly said.
Even when he had gathered the courage to enter the house, he spent his time in the hallway and would not enter other rooms.
All he did was stare immobile at a wall for hours because he didn't want to bother anyone.
"And even when I touched him to comfort him, he shied away from me because he was afraid I would hurt him," Kelly said.
Building trust
Kelly tried everything to show Walt that he was safe with her.
She prepared a cozy bed for him, but Walt did not understand that it was for him.
He continued to sleep on the floor, afraid to trust again.
But Kelly didn't give up. She showed Walt love and patience every day. And slowly Walt began to trust her.
He realized that Kelly's house was a safe place for him.
"I knew he realized he was safe here - I was sitting on the couch watching TV and he came in and put his head under my hand, as if to say, 'Love me.' Whereas he didn't even know what that was when we first brought him here," Kelly told me.
Transformation
Over time, Walt began to change.
He started playing with Kelly and even invented his own game, jumping and running through the yard.
Walt even befriended Kelly's other dog....
Although the other dog was significantly smaller than him, the two managed to find the perfect balance in their relationship.
A happy ending
Thanks to Kelly's love and care, Walt's life changed for the better.
He changed from a frightened dog who avoided eye contact to a happy pup who loved spending time with his favorite people.
"It was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done in my entire life.... They deserve nothing but people who love them," Kelly said.
Thank you, Kelly! And thank you to all the people who have dedicated their lives to saving dogs in need of help.
