Goldendoodle Rescues Fawn From Drowning And Continues To Care For Him

Not all heroes wear capes.... that's for sure! Some wear nothing but a smile, like Harley!

This heroic Goldendoodle from Virginia made worldwide news in 2021 when he sprang into action when his help was needed most!

This six-year-old dog was spotted by his owner, Ralph Dorn, about 60 yards from shore, swimming with an unknown animal, for the most selfless reason ever.

As Ralph got a little closer, he realized that Harley was not just swimming - he was on a rescue mission!

Harley Came Immediately Into Action

Ralph Dorn, from Virginia, always knew his Goldendoodle, Harley, was special. Harley was a good and intuitive dog who clearly stood out from other dogs.

Yet Harley managed to amaze his owner again when he sprang into action to save a baby deer from drowning.

"Harley must have seen the young deer in the water and acted instinctively," Ralph noted.

When Harley saw the helpless deer struggling in the water, he did not hesitate. He swam toward the deer without thinking, which was then about 60 meters from shore.

He Swam Beside His Mate Until They Were Safe

It was definitely not an easy task to help the little deer, which was only a few days old! Harley had to guide it all the way to shore, because the young animal had no coordination and didn't know how to get there. But there Harley was - swimming like a pro and guiding his new friend to shore!

"Every time the deer tried to turn away, Harley sent it back toward the shoreline, and so they got closer and closer," Ralph said.

One thing is certain: without Harley, the baby deer would certainly not have survived! Fortunately, this Goldendoodle managed to bring the fawn to shore. As soon as they were out of the water, he started licking and nursing it.

He just wanted to make sure the baby was safe and had no intention of leaving him behind!

However, a few moments after the rescue, the deer's mother appeared on the lawn. As soon as Ralph noticed her, he and Harley returned home and made sure the baby and the mother were reunited in peace.

A Beautiful Friendship Emerged

Ralph thought that was about it, but the next morning Harley surprised him even more! He was having coffee with his wife, Patricia, when this golden boy came up to them and started running from one window to another.

It was abundantly clear that he wanted to go outside, but Ralph didn't know why. He opened the door and Harley came out, and then he saw the most beautiful scene of all!

Harley heard the little deer barking - the same deer he had rescued from the lake the day before! He ran toward this little one and when they were together, the deer stopped bleating.

The two had a few cute moments together, sniffing each other and wagging their tails together - and that was it! After their brief encounter, Harley went back into the house, totally happy to have seen his little friend!

Harley's intuition and extraordinary ability to help others are no surprise! Before his heroic rescue, he worked as a certified therapy dog, helping the elderly and children in his local community!

He has always been a flawless boy, always ready to take action and help others when needed. That's just who he is - the perfect Goldendoodle!
