We regularly read stories about the bravery of one of the most dangerous professions in the world - that of police officers.

They work hard every day to ensure the safety of people. But they are not just there for people.

Rescuing and protecting dogs and other animals can be just as rewarding. Sometimes there is even a happy ending that can be heartwarming.

One such story was told by the Auguste Maine Police Department, it was about an abandoned and injured puppy who desperately needed their help.

A puppy in need

On July 16, 2020, Officer Sara Rogers received a report of a pathetic, injured puppy. The puppy had been abandoned and alone on the street in Augusta, Maine's capital city.

Agent Sara had a big heart, especially for puppies, and she was ready to help.

She quickly went to the scene and carefully placed the puppy on the passenger seat and quickly took her to the veterinarian to treat her injuries.

She hoped to find the puppy's owner, but he turned out not to be there.

The puppy was all alone in the world and Agent Sara knew she had to do something to help.

A special bond develops

The vet asked if officer Sara could keep an eye on the puppy through the night until the Kennebec Humane Society staff arrived at work, which was no problem for Sara.

Throughout the night, Officer Sara kept watching the puppy. She felt a special bond with the little one. They even ate together during her shift, and in that moment an unbreakable bond developed between them.

Agent Sara decided to take care of the puppy until she could find a permanent home. Her family also fell in love with the adorable puppy.

They decided to name her Rey, after a brave character from Star Wars. Rey was now part of their family.

A forever home

About a month later, Rey was ready for adoption. But agent Sara didn't have the heart to say "goodbye" to her dear friend. Without hesitation, Rey decided to permanently adopt the puppy herself.

A good ending

The Augusta Maine Police Department shared this heartwarming story on their Facebook page. They said, "You gotta love happy endings," and indeed, this was a story that warmed everyone's heart.

In this story, Agent Sara's courage and compassion not only made a difference in a little puppy's life, but also showed us that love can make for a beautiful ending.
