Pup Twice Returned To Shelter Hopes New Mom Finally Wants To Keep Her
It is so heartbreaking when dogs are returned to the shelter after adoption, their sad and disappointed heads bring tears to your eyes.
Unfortunately, this happens all too often, and it happened to the dog in this story.
Lola was returned to the shelter not once, but twice in seven months.
Lola was therefore determined to make the best impression on the next family she would go to.
That is exactly what she did.
A sad beginning
Lola's story begins with sadness. In just seven months, she was returned to the shelter twice.
It made very sad and confused.
But Lola never lost hope.
She wanted to find a family that would love her forever.
New hope
One day, a woman named Christina saw Lola's picture on an animal shelter website.
Lola's eyes looked so sad, it was like the dog from Christina's childhood.
Christina knew she had to meet Lola.
"I remember seeing her sad eyes in the picture and knew I had to take her home. She came in with her foster mom and she was such a sweet little girl who immediately sat down on my feet and looked up at me," Christina said.
A home forever
When Lola met her new owner Christina, she knew she had found a forever home.
She snuggled close to Christina and immediately showed her love.
Christina was determined to give Lola the love and care she deserved.
"The first night I brought her home, she lay on top of me for hours and cuddled me. I was amazed at how quickly she got used to me, because at that point I had only spent the drive home with her. It was like she was so grateful and that's also why I knew I couldn't abandon her," Christina said.
Challenges and love
Unfortunately, all of her past experiences left their mark on Lola, so she ended up doing things that really weren't meant to be.
Fortunately, her new parents understood her situation and were very patient with her from the beginning.
She dug in the backyard and tried to play with the neighbor's dog.
But Christina and her family were patient. They knew Lola needed time to adjust.
"We had challenges when she dug in the backyard and tried to get through the fence to play with the neighbor's dog. It definitely tested our patience, but we knew that if we didn't have the patience, no one else would," Christina said.
"Lola has definitely taught me patience and perseverance. You can't just give up no matter the challenges," Christina said.
Happily ever after
With time, Lola's behavior improved. She found joy in her new role as big sister to a puppy named Lenny.
Together they played and cuddled and brought happiness to Christina's home.
"The highlight of my day is just coming home and spending time with her. She really has a special place in my heart," Christina said.
