Every day shelter dogs hope they finally meet someone and fall in love with them.

Looking for love and affection, shelter dogs try to attract the attention of visitors as soon as they see them approaching their kennel.

They bark and wag to attract the attention of visitors.

But Rudy was different. He was a quiet shelter dog who sat in his kennel with his sad eyes focused on the people walking by.

This sweet pit bull mix had been relinquished by his family and he desperately needed someone to give him attention.

Volunteer Stephanie, grieving the loss of her beloved dog Hank, walked into the shelter that day.

Amid the loud barking, Rudy's quiet gaze caught her attention and touched her heart.

"He just sat there looking at me, as if to say, 'Please come talk to me,'" Stephanie said.

The story of Rudy's neglect

Stephanie learned that Rudy had once had a family who had adopted him.

Full of hope, they took him home, but soon decided they didn't want him anymore.

Rudy was devastated and wandered the streets alone, looking for food to survive.

"They had hurt his feelings after putting him on the street," Stephanie told me.

Fortunately, Rudy was found by the Humane Police. He was in terrible shape - he was underweight and covered in fleas.

Stephanie understood the sad expression on his face and she began to spend more time with him, walking with him and talking to him.

Stephanie's heart grew for Rudy and together with her husband Matt, they decided to adopt him.

She wanted to help him regain his confidence and help him become a happy dog. Rudy left the shelter and jumped into Stephanie's car.

Rudy was completely trusting of her and laid his head on her shoulder. Stephanie was overjoyed.

Health Problems

The next morning, Stephanie became very concerned about Rudy's health when she noticed he was chewing on his paws.

She immediately called the shelter and they reassured her that Rudy probably had a food allergy.

She realized she couldn't take Rudy back to the shelter.

He needed her, and she was determined to help him figure out what was causing his allergy.

"I started figuring out what was causing the allergy and started taking those things away," Stephanie said.

With tests and dietary changes, Rudy's health improved, demonstrating his resilience and adaptability.

Stephanie and Matt showered Rudy with love, and Rudy expressed his affection with adorable kisses.

He had his own unique way of cuddling with both his parents.

"At night, he takes turns cuddling us. He goes to Daddy, cuddles with him and after a while, at eight o'clock, he comes to me and cuddles with me," Stephanie told me.

Although Rudy became more confident, he still sought reassurance, especially when he felt he had done something wrong.

Stephanie held his paw to let him know everything was okay.

"I want to thank Rudy for finding me and teaching me to deal not only with my grief, but also with him and that he is enough. You don't have to fill those shoes. You have your own shoes," Stephanie expressed her gratitude.

A joyful life

Rudy's Instagram is full of photos of his happy adventures, walks in the woods and hikes with his canine friend Gracie.

He knows he will never be rejected again.
