Sad Shelter Dog Watches Her Friends Get Adopted And Leave
It is wonderful when a dog at a shelter finally finds its new family and a forever home, but it is also a bit sad to see a dog struggle to be adopted.
Many shelter dogs have this problem, and it's completely bad when their friends in the shelter leave them because they can get quite lonely.
This story is about Chauncey. She is a very shy but sweet and playful dog who was taken in at the Spartanburg Humane Society.
She spent a lot of time there watching her friends leave for their new families. She watched them leave through an opening in the door.
The people who worked at the shelter did not understand why no one wanted to adopt Chauncey.
Angel Cox, CEO of the Spartanburg Humane Society, told The Dodo: Chauncey is very shy until she gets to know you. So she kind of watched the world pass her by with all the barking and constant activity at the shelter.
The staff at the shelter all felt terrible about her situation, so they often kept her company. They took her for walks, petted her and gave her treats.
Cox said: She loved being held and walked by the staff and volunteers. She is great on a leash, so she was definitely a favorite with the volunteers.
Although it seemed like she couldn't find anyone, a family did come to the shelter and adopted her. Chauncey spent some time with the new family and was able to experience what it was like to have a home.
Unfortunately, this did not work for her, so her new family sent her back to the shelter.
A bright new future
Only thanks to the relentless efforts of the Spartanburg staff did Chauncey get another chance at life.
The staff refused to accept her situation, so they posted on Facebook about Chauncey in hopes of finding someone else for her.
Not long after, another family decided to adopt her after seeing the post about her.
This time she immediately showed her charm to the new family and they recognized that Chauncey was exactly what they were looking for.
Cox told: She sold herself right away. She is a very loving dog and she convinced them with her sweetness.
Everyone at the shelter was overjoyed that she has found her new home and is finally happy.
Even though Chauncey struggled because of her shyness, she never gave up hope. Her story will certainly inspire more people not to overlook the quiet dog if they want to adopt one.
