When stray dogs are rescued and brought to a shelter, they often have traumas and fears.

We sometimes don't know what they have been through. What we do know is that they need a lot of love and care to get over their grief.

In this story, we talk about Lucy, a sweet puppy from a shelter who was overwhelmed with fear.

Ever since her arrival at Austin Animal Center, in Texas, she could not stop crying.

The staff at the shelter were very gentle and loving to Lucy. They kept cuddling her and gave her lots of love.

The puppy let them know she was grateful for their care by wagging her tail. Still, she continued to cry.

The staff was aware that it would take some time to overcome her fears.

"She was so terrified. We didn't know if it was because of all these new people or because she had been in a shelter before, but we knew she had experienced trauma," says Morgan, who visited Lucy at her kennel.

Lucy's cry for help

Lucy's paw was injured and she needed extra care.

Morgan, who was moved by Lucy's fearful condition, decided with her friend Emily to take Lucy home and make her happy again.

At first they only planned to give Lucy a foster home, but this quickly changed.

"So I thought, 'We're just fostering this puppy.' But when I had her in my arms two minutes later, I said, 'This dog is going to be ours.

Building trust

When Lucy stepped into her new home, her life changed. Morgan gave her a nice bath and luckily Lucy loved it.

In the beginning, Lucy was still afraid of everything. She did not want to go outside and ran back inside when they wanted to take her for a walk.

Morgan and Emily knew Lucy needed time to overcome her fears.

They started with short walks and slowly stepped it up.

Walking not only helped Lucy get used to new sounds and people, but it was also good for her injured paw.

"She is incredibly sweet, super sweet! She's so perfect!" shared Morgan as Lucy began to blossom into a happy and confident dog who enjoyed life.

A happy ending

It didn't stop there for Lucy's transformation. She became an affectionate puppy who loved to cuddle on the couch.

Surprisingly, she also developed a strong bond with the family's cat and they became close friends.

They love to run around together and give each other sweet kisses.

Now Lucy is living her best life. The family loves her immensely and they cannot imagine their life without her.

She found the happiness she was looking for and I am very happy about that.
