Malnourished Dog Who Was Kept On A Chain His Entire Life Learns To Be A Dog Again

Gidget is a shy pit bull who has spent her entire life outside on a heavy chain with only a dirty old shed for shelter.

She never got to run and play like a dog is supposed to, nor was she ever treated well.

After three years of neglect, her owners finally decided to surrender her when it got extremely cold.

The Underdogs Rescue arrived to rescue her, but could not remove the chain attached to her neck, so they took it away.

She was rushed back to the warm shelter.

The road to recovery

When Gidget arrived at the shelter, she was in poor condition.

She was emaciated, anemic and suffering from worms. She even had an infection in her mouth.

But that wasn't all - she tested positive for heartworm and her abdomen had fluid, indicating possible heart damage.

The road to recovery was long, but thanks to generous donations to the GOODS program, things began to change.

"Thanks to the support we receive, we can give Gidget the care she so desperately needs," said a representative of the GOODS Program.

Gidget was treated for worms, given a nutritious diet and placed with a loving foster family.

Although there are still problems with car rides and walking on a leash, Gidget now realizes for the first time that she is safe and loved.

She will stay with her foster family until a home is found for her.

A bright future for Gidget
