Shelter dog loses hope when returned shortly after adoption each time 1

All dogs at the shelter long for a home of their own, but some dogs are passed over and over again and begin to lose hope that they will ever be adopted.

This is shown in a heartbreaking photo, which shows a 3-year-old shelter dog looking heartbroken after he was once again denied adoption.

But there is still hope for this lonely dog....

The story of Rocky

Rocky, a 3-year-old pit bull, has been housed at Lollypop Farm, Humane Society of Greater Rochester, since October 2022, when his family was evicted and could no longer care for him.

Since then, Rocky has been adopted twice only to be returned to the shelter, followed by several two-week trial adoptions.

Despite these glimmers of hope, Rocky always ended up back where he started.

"Last September he was last brought back and he hasn't had any luck since. He's a great dog, but he would thrive in a certain kind of home that is harder to find," Lindsay Brewer says.

Loss of hope

After more than a year of rejections and false starts, Rocky is beginning to lose heart, as evidenced by a heartbreaking photo the shelter posted a few weeks ago.

Rocky sits in his kennel, all alone, his head bowed down as if devastated that he has skipped another day.

"This 3-year-old handsome boy is losing hope of finding a home. He really needs the support of our community to make him more known so his new family can find him," Lollypop Farm wrote on Facebook.

Photo on Facebook

The photo touched many hearts online and the photo has gone viral with more than 31,000 shares on Facebook and more than 600 comments.

Many wished this sweet dog luck in finding a home and others offered to pay his adoption fees.

The photo generated a lot of interest in Rocky.

A few days later, they posted another update telling us that Rocky has been on probation since Dec. 7.

If all continues to go well, Rocky may finally have his new home.

If things do not go well, the shelter will update their notice to indicate whether they are still looking for adopters.

While Rocky has certainly touched many hearts, he is by no means the only dog looking for a home, and Lollypop Farm is urging people to consider adopting one of their other available dogs.

It is heartbreaking to see a shelter dog so sad.

We hope Rocky finds his new home soon!
