There are many heartwarming stories in which a stray or abandoned dog has been rescued, cared for and given a new home by people.

But this story is something different and shows how a starving dog never gave up hope and fought with everything he had left to survive.

A call for help

A family discovered a weak and starving dog lying on the ground in their backyard.

They quickly contacted ThisIsHouston, a group known for rescuing animals in need.

Laura, a rescue worker, arrived on the scene and saw the poor dog in terrible condition.

He used all the energy he had left to lift his head to show he was still alive.

A race against the clock

Laura wasted no time. Laura immediately took him to the nearest emergency room they could find.

Throughout the ride there, she kept checking on the dog to make sure he was still breathing.

When they finally arrived, which felt like an eternity, he received proper care and treatment.

He was extremely malnourished and it took some time before he could get up and move a little.

The vets kept him on a strict diet to get his weight back up.

A miracle

Days turned into weeks and the dog, now named Jake, began to show interest in playing again.

Tom reported happily, "Jake did great. No matter how much pain he was in, he still had good posture, and he still wanted to move on, and he still wanted to play. Even just sitting there, you can tell he loves life. He's just happy to be alive."

The staff said he was not interested in toys at first, but when he regained his strength after a few weeks, he began to play much more.

A month later, Jake has made an impressive recovery.

His coat has grown back, his weight is almost back to normal and he is even more cheerful and playful than a few weeks ago.

Laura, Jake's rescuer, said, "You can spend hours with him in the backyard, just throwing balls, and he never gets tired."

A new beginning

Shortly after his recovery, a loving family decided to adopt him and provide Jake with a warm and caring home.

The family already had a dog named Jasper, who was not very friendly.

Surprisingly, they became best friends after that Jake met.

It has now been two years since Jake found his new home.

The family celebrates every occasion to mark the milestones of Jake's incredible journey.

Jake and Jasper remain inseparable and have countless adventures together.
