Sweet Dog Surrendered To Shelter, Hopes To Find Owners Who Will Never Give Up On Him 1

When we first hug our dogs and take them home, we promise to always be there for them.

Dogs feel safe with us because they know they belong to us.

Unfortunately, some owners do not think carefully before getting a dog.

They might then hand them off to a shelter, which can be very difficult for the dog.

Drake, a sweet and loyal dog, felt very sad when his family took him to a shelter because they didn't have enough time for him.

Drake did not understand why he had to leave his home. He was hurt and confused.

Warm welcome by the asylum

Drake was warmly welcomed by the shelter staff and volunteers, who showered him with affection and offered comfort during his stay.

A kind volunteer at the shelter, Ilona, noticed Drake's big, sad eyes.

She said, "He has such a big head and a big grin and such a muscular little body."

Ilona knew she had to help him.

Unfortunately, there is a ban on owning pit bulls in Prince George's County, so Drake could not find a home there.

Because the shelter was already full, Drake was in danger of being euthanized to make room.

When Drake's name appeared on the euthanasia list, a compassionate shelter employee recognized the urgent need to rescue him and took action to save the precious dog.

They contacted Vindicated Pit Bull Rescue and asked if they could rescue Drake.

The rescue organization agreed and retrieved Drake from the shelter.

Drake stayed in a temporary foster home for a few days before moving to a permanent foster home.

However, this family could not keep him for long because of a family emergency.

Drake returned to his temporary foster home, where he was welcomed with open arms.

Another disappointing setback

The rescue organization received great news shortly thereafter - Drake had found a loving family who wanted to adopt him!

He was overjoyed to begin a new chapter of his life with them.

But things did not go as planned.

Drake's new little brother did not accept him, and after three weeks, his new family decided they could not keep him.

They brought him back to the shelter.

When Drake returned, he seemed anxious and upset. He needed a caring foster home to make him feel safe and loved again.

The rescue organization contacted Ilona and asked if she could take care of Drake.

They explained that Drake's adoptive family had had to give him up and they hoped Ilona could provide him with a stable and loving home.

A loving foster family

Ilona and her husband decided to help.

They already had a dog Honey Pie and a baby of their own, but they opened their hearts to Drake.

They helped him feel safe and loved.

Drake looked up at Honey Pie and imitated her behavior. The two dogs became close friends and they enjoyed walking together.

Drake is very affectionate and loves to give kisses to his foster family.

"He really loves my husband, which is great. And he loves our baby so much. They have an incredible bond," Ilona added.

Hope for the future

Drake is still hoping for a forever home. Ilona and her husband wish Drake would find a home where he is cherished and never abandoned again.
