Two Poor Puppies Sneak Into A School And Hope To Finally Find A Home Of Their Own 1

Finding a safe place is difficult for stray dogs.

Whether hot or cold, they need shelter to feel safe.

Rescue workers often find dogs hidden in abandoned buildings or cardboard boxes. But the dogs in this story found a unique temporary home.

Finding a refuge

In a small town in California, there were two puppies named Maggie and Mack.

They had no home of their own, so they lived on the streets, searching every day for food and shelter.

One sunny day, Maggie and Mack found shelter in a schoolyard.

They were tired and scared, but they knew they needed a safe place to rest.

A helping hand

When Suzette Hall, founder of the California rescue organization Logan's Legacy 29, received a message from a friend who worked at a nearby school, she felt very sad.

Her friend told her that two dogs had found shelter at the school because they had nowhere else to go.

When she and some teachers found them, they cowered and were really scared.

When Hall saw pictures of the dogs, she couldn't help but cry.

The way the two white puppies looked at the school staff and asked for help broke her heart.

Hall decided to take the dogs in right away. But on the way to the school, she had car trouble and was delayed for several hours.

Fortunately, the school staff did not wait.

They devised a plan to take the frightened dogs to a safer place while they waited for Hall.

A brave janitor took the puppies to an empty toilet and the teachers took turns babysitting them and trying to feed them.

"A teacher had given them her lunch, but there was broccoli everywhere. Apparently they don't like broccoli," Hall wrote on Facebook.

A happy ending

When Hall finally managed to arrive at the school, she couldn't believe the physical condition of these dogs.

"I honestly couldn't believe it when I saw them. They had dreadlocks and [were] so dirty ... they looked like two little [bums]," Hall added.

With Suzette's help, Maggie and Mack were taken to a hospital where they received a hot bath and a haircut.

They felt so much better!

The hospital staff took good care of them and made sure they were healthy.

After their stay in the hospital, Maggie and Mack went to live with a foster family.

They were a little scared at first, but with love and patience they soon learned that they were safe and loved.

A bright future

Now Maggie and Mack are waiting for someone to adopt them and give them a forever home.

But until then, they are happy and content, surrounded by people who care about them.

"Layer by layer, we will put the past behind us. But they [are] finally safe," Suzette said with a smile.
