Volunteer Drives 1,300 Miles To Return Lost Puppy And Discovers Owner Doesn't Want Her
It's a mystery how a sweet Pitbull mix from Florida ended up on the streets of Michigan.
She was shivering from the cold and hoping someone would notice her. Humane Society of Midland County came to the rescue and moved her to safety.
The puppy, named Blue, was relieved and happy to be taken off the streets.
The shelter staff was thrilled when they discovered Blue had a microchip.
A microchip
Blue's story took a new turn when shelter staff found a tiny microchip on her.
This contained the secret of her origin - she belonged to someone in Florida!
After calling the number registered on the microchip, a woman answered.
The staff was stunned to discover that Blue lived in Florida.
According to the woman, Blue had gone missing a week ago.
She didn't know how the one-year-old puppy had found her way to Michigan.
Staff at the shelter were overjoyed when they learned the woman wanted Blue back.
They immediately started looking for a volunteer to take Blue home.
Stephanie James, a lovely woman, was assigned to travel with Blue. It was a 1,300-mile trip to go from Michigan to Florida.
The loving ride
During the long drive, Blue, the one-year-old puppy, quickly formed a bond with Stephanie and her brother.
After a 1300 miles journey, they finally arrived at the owner's house. The owner's mother opened the door and welcomed them inside. Blue's 22-year-old owner was not home.
Reunion and unexpected news
Blue immediately recognized her home and eagerly waited to see her owner's beloved face. As soon as the owner arrived home, the adorable little dog started jumping for joy.
They all talked about Blue and tried to figure out how she had ended up in Michigan. The owner and her mother said they had left the puppy in a kennel in the backyard when they weren't home.
"She's a very agile, very smart dog. They think she ended up near the highway and someone picked her up," Stephanie James told us.
However, the reunion was accompanied by unexpected news.
After talking for a while, James was shocked when Blue's owner told her they had to take Blue back to the Michigan shelter.
Blue's owner could not balance school and work and decided she could no longer care for the puppy.
"Because I go to school full-time and work full-time, I can't pay attention to the dog. You guys seem like good people. Blue really likes you guys. You guys have taken good care of her," the owner told me.
Return
Despite her bond with the dog, Stephanie knew that returning Blue to the shelter was the best choice for the pup's future. As they drove away, Blue looked back at her home.
Stephanie was moved when she saw the sad and confused expression on the dog's face.
"It will be all right, Blue, we love you" she reassured the confused pup.
Adoption
Back at the shelter, news spread about Blue's situation. Her owner's rejection touched the hearts of many.
Adoption applications poured in from people eager to give Blue the golden basket she deserved.
A new beginning
Among the candidates was Robert Allison, who had recently lost his beloved Pit Bull.
He applied for adoption after hearing Blue's touching story. The meeting between Blue and Robert was wonderful.
"I walked up to her and she jumped on me. She really clicked with me," Robert told me.
The happy ending for Blue
Blue moved into her new home with Robert and gave him a lot of love and kisses every day.
Stephanie James visited Blue, despite the painful goodbye, and witnessed the joyous reunion.
